Who is Neovanglist?
I am Neovanglist! Actually, as you may have noticed, my real name is Chris Gilbert. I go by many names, and this tends to confuse people on a regular basis both on and off the internet. In the real world I go by either "Chris" or "Lance". Lance is my middle name, and most of my family and close friends call me by it. Chris however, is my legal first name. I use it for everything work, legal, or school related. In the online world, I've gone by only a few aliases. My oldest name is "Liquidblue", which I still use today in a few online communities. Everywhere else I go by "Neovanglist"
The name "Neovanglist" is a composite word which I intentionally mispelled. It is pronounced "Neo Van Gel Ist", I left the "e" out for two reasons. One, it shortens the nick enough for use in various IRC networks, and seems to flow better visually. Two, it's so that I would be able to retain this nick anywhere online with almost no chance of someone else using it, as they would had to of left out the same character.
The name is a composite of the words "Neo" meaning new, and "Evangelist" meaning preacher. The meaning behind this is intended as "Preacher of the new world". It's made to be taken in a metaphorical sense, and not a literal (religious) sense.
Who is Chris Gilbert?
I have worked in the IT industry since I was 14, and have done everything from low level tech grunt work, to senior level software design and engineering.
I previously worked for Rainbow Studios (A THQ developer) porting and maintaining their next-gen engine on PS3.
I also worked at IO Interactive A/S as a Nintendo Wii, Playstation 2, and Playstation 3 programmer. My job entailed things from random bugfixing, to being responsible for the engine as a whole on Wii and PS2.
As far as my personal life goes, I am an avid gamer. I very often play Unreal Tournament 2004 under the alias "Neovanglist". I also enjoy tactical RPGs, fighting games, and mech simulations.
For my taste in music, I listen mainly alternative, trance, and ska. In particular I enjoy Rage Against the Machine, Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Ayla, Nirvana, and The Offspring.
